istanbul has the most prolific horn usage out of everywhere ive been. everyone is honking all the time.
Unfortunately that is because people don’t know how to drive properly so you have to assume everyone driving around you can do something dumb any given time like changing lanes without checking the other lane, or they can cross a 4 lane highway from the most left lane directly to the exit on the right that is 50-60m ahead. People don’t know the laws and the rules so they act without thinking of the consequences. Yes these kind of people can be found everywhere on the world but think of it as everyone on the highway with you is like this. You have to be thinking really fast and obsessively checking your surroundings, it’s like paranoia. When I was taking my license the instructor told me that honking is everything if you want to survive here. It also has different meanings so it’s kind of a language, depending on the circumstances it is being used it can mean from a range of thank you to flipping off a finger...

We also use high beams excessively like the horns

We have a saying here that if you can drive in Istanbul and survive you can drive anywhere around the world.
