A BMW Motorsport presenter at an M event described M cars as ground up developments of Series cars with up to 90% of the parts being different. I have an E82 135i M Sport, the predecessor to the M235i. It's a great car that's quick and very enjoyable. It's more fun to drive in the twisties than my E60 M5 was. My 0-60 is well under 5 seconds with the power package. But, it's NOT an M car. It's a Series car with goodies. The sum of its parts is what sets a well balanced M car apart. A drive in a 1M Coupe would make that abundantly clear.

Just my .02

P.S. I loved my '74 2002 tii, but these cars are in a different league in terms of performance.
