BMW has sold lightweight race derived motors in their cars before- look at the E30 M3. Slightly more expensive? Sure. Worth it? IMHO, absolutely.
BMW currently sells a high revving, lightweight, 1.46 hp per pound, 193 hp normally aspirated motor for $15k. It comes with titanium intake and exhaust valves, gun drilled cams, etc. And a complete motorcycle.
