Why would you want a 7 year old engine (N54) in the M2? The N55 coming in the M2 will not be the same engine as the one that comes in the standard 2-series. It's getting a T designation engine (formerly Tu). The reason so many people preferred the N54 was because it had better internals. On a dyno, the two engines were within a couple percentage points of each other across the board (until you started tuning). It is extremely unlikely that the N55B30T0 (the rumored M2 engine code) will fall short of the N54 in that department.

At this point, anyone who still idolizes the N54 is just waxing nostalgic. The version of the N55 we get in the M2 will be superior to the N54 from the 1M in every measurable dimension.
