I would generally agree with you but in this case there's a special tool required which will set me back a chunk of that 2-300 dollar savings

And its an opportunity for me to develop a service relationship with an independent BMW specialist so if/when the dealerships service dept pulls shenanigans I have someone to turn to.

I enjoy working on my own car.....but when its new and under warranty I tend to try to not give the manufacturer/dealer the opportunity to deny my claim for anything

So in my case I'll likely give my dealership the opportunity to earn an additional sale by asking if they will match price on part other dealerships sell it for then talk about install price

If they come REALLY close then I'm happy to give them my busines

If they are hundreds of dollars off then I'll go elsewhere.....but the ball is in their court...ymmv.....I want the dealer on my side....and in all of the vehicles I've owned this has worked well for me
