It doesn't matter. BMW is selling every M235i they bother to build for the US market, and quickly. Do you see a plethora of them sitting around dealer lots? I sure don't. Given that, why on Earth would BMW be interested in spending money making the cars artificially cheaper? They aren't likely to increase production - they would rather make more profitable X1s.
If you don't like the lease rates, take advantage of the wonderfully low finance rates available and just buy the thing.
