If I can get around my parts in a 2WD Dakota w/ open rear diff all winter, you can get around in a RWD 2 series with all the help from the nannies etc, combined with a good tire. Unless you drive scared of snow/ice, you shouldn't run into issues. Biggest thing for me, here, is not just the steep grades, the gravel they lay on the roads (they don't salt here) is brutal and can take 10 years off of a paint job on your front end in just a couple of winters. Once they sweep the roads, the 2 series comes back out.
Aside from personal convictions, the only issue I see with these cars being RWD in the snow is ground clearance. That would be my next issue here, next to the gravel. We can get over a ft of snow in one night, and my front end would literally get ripped off. There's a 996 Carerra 4 owner nearby that drives his car year round and there's no more lower bumper portion, lol, it's just gone. He made a custom license plate sticker to put on the top half of what was left, lol
