Just got done with my SA on this one. He started out defensive, saying this is the only case he is aware of, and since I could not prove that it was not stolen, or lost via my own negligence, it was not a warranty item. When i mentioned the slew of internet based complaints, he basically said that information was worthless and was unwilling to look at it.
Bottomline: my SA was unwilling to support this as a warranty claim despite my claim that it is a defective part (which is covered by our warranty). To his credit, he did agree to give me one for free, as a one time good deal. It felt like charity, and I almost walked away w/o it. But the Service Manager agreed to elevate my claim and said he would do more research on the "issue."
I recommend anyone that loses one to address it with their dealer. This won't become a TSP unless we make BMW aware of the defect.
