BMW can not afford to pass on the 2GC opportunity. They will not take the competition from the CLA and A3 laying down. I believe the original quoted text may have been taken out of context or possibly an outdated interview? Or he is saying they will make it, just maybe not bring it to the US market?
I do agree on the substitution theory. The 2GC has the potential to cannibalize the 3 series sales (BMWs best selling car by far).
