Scott26 said the M2 will be at the Tokyo Motor Show (10/28 start) for sure. It may also show up (not for sure because of proximate Tokyo dates) at the LA auto show (11/17 start).
As far as something happening earlier, I would guess it would be an "internet reveal" (official renderings and stats), along the lines of what's currently taking place with the new X4.

I'm not sure what October 14 has to do with anything. Some have attached an M2 debut at a DTM event on October 14. Problem with that is, among other things, there is no DTM event on October 14.
