You guys are completely wrong, sorry to break the news to you.

Things vary from state to state, and you have to currently carry UM protection.

I've carried my insurance license for FIFTEEN YEARS... I practice in 9 STATES...

It IS an uninsured motorist claim... Your deductible can vary, however typical deductible for such an event is $250... BY LAW, you ARE NOT AT FAULT, therefore CANNOT raise your rates.

Hopefully the OP will follow up, and if he meets the criteria and follows through you all would have just received a free insurance lesson, and he gets his car back to perfect, or as close as possible.

Look at your policies, call your insurance companies. This is a VERY common mistake people make and the insurance companies love it.

If you have a couple bucks in your pocket it's usually pointless to drive in any vehicle that's damaged by a hit and run.

I feel you folks are thinking it was damaged by a hammer, baseball bat, work boot... That would be a comprehensive claim... Completely different.
